“Surmises of the interconnection of such sites […] is more for the visionary than the archaeologist.”
– Aubrey Burl, ‘THE STONE CIRCLES OF THE BRITISH ISLES’ (1977)
Out-takes and curios from the production of REMNANTS.
BAD START
The eternal joy of British weather, combined with the extreme difficulty of securing a shooting slot at Stonehenge during full moon, after the film went into official production following a two year ‘speculative’ period. Can’t win them all.
MORPHING DEMO
A very early test reel, circa. 2007. I briefly considered an abstract approach to the film, later abandoned. This demo was edited and scored by ANCIENT SKIES director of CGI Glenn Marshall.
Apologies for the very lo-res picture and sound quality. The original has long since been lost.
RIGHT MOMENT
The incessant rain and fog of the Connemara region of Ireland finally broke after five fruitless days on location. With patience and good fortune I was in the right place at the right time to record one of the best shots of the opening sequence.
HELLO DOLLY
A 12ft, 3-stage video dolly was adapted and motorised for ‘feathered’ motion controlled timelapse tracking. Capable of pulling two cameras simultaneously, the electronics were designed and supplied by Bryan Mumford.
